Bienvenidos a FARNET: la Red Europea de Zonas de Pesca

FARNET es una comunidad de personas que aplican el desarrollo local participativo del Fondo Europeo Marítimo y de Pesca (FEMP). Está constituida por Grupos de Acción Local de Pesca (FLAG), autoridades de gestión, ciudadanos y expertos de toda la UE que trabajan en aras del desarrollo sostenible de las zonas pesqueras y costeras.

Las zonas de pesca de toda la UE están enfrentándose a unos importantes desafíos. El declive constante de los ingresos y del empleo en el sector pesquero ha venido a subrayar la necesidad de encontrar respuestas innovadoras que sean a la vez sostenibles e integradoras. El desarrollo local participativo es un instrumento que permite a las comunidades pesqueras locales abordar estos retos proponiendo y probando nuevas soluciones. La misión de FARNET es ayudarles a hacerlas realidad.

Drecklyfish is a direct sales system developed by Cornish fishermen using twitter as a live auction. After an initial phase, they received support from Axis4 of EFF to develop it further as a collective project and scale up operations.

FLAGs: Drivers of Green Growth in European Fisheries Areas

Cooperation, creativity and a long-term commitment to sustainability are some of the main ingredients necessary for fisheries areas to be successful in safeguarding their environmental assets, while also benefitting from opportunities in the green economy. This was one of the main conclusions of the FARNET conference, "FLAGs: Drivers of Green growth in European Fisheries Areas", which took place in Olhão, Portugal from the 4-6 June 2012.
