The Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) of the European Commission is organising a high level conference on the sustainable development of fisheries areas. Recognising the increasing importance of this issue for fisheries communities, and the strengthening of EU policy on local development, the event will focus on the emerging experience and contribution of Axis 4 of the European Fisheries Fund. The conference will also showcase more than 30 Axis 4 projects during an interactive exhibition.
Actively involving more than 300 participants, public, private and community stakeholders concerned with the sustainable development of fisheries areas, the conference will span two half days. Agenda of the event
The first afternoon (03/11) will consider priorities for the local development of fisheries communities with keynote presentations, real evidence of the first achievements of EFF Axis 4 and active discussion of the key points.
A selection of projects supported by FLAGs across the EU will be travelling to Brussels to provide a vibrant and interactive exhibition demonstrating what they have achieved.
You can now find the list of projects selected here.
Continuing the theme of bringing fisheries community experience to the centre, a series of high quality video documentaries highlighting promising local examples will be screened.
The second part of the event (04/11) will offer participants choices from a range of carefully selected themed working groups.
Based on real life examples mainly from Axis 4 supported communities these thoroughly practical and participative workshops will inform and involve participants in exploring Axis 4 potentialities and its future contribution to sustainable fisheries communities.
