"Getting started on the ground with Axis 4 of the European Fisheries Fund", Pärnu, Estonia, 4-5 June 2009

125 participants from 19 Member States participated in the seminar, which was held in Pärnu, Estonia, on 4-5 June 2009. The seminar was organised by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), in partnership with the Estonian Fisheries Administration.

The majority of participants were local actors (representatives of local groups and potential stakeholders of future local groups). Among the participants were also representatives of central and regional administrations of the different Member States. A large delegation of Commission officials was also present, as well as staff members of the newly established Support Unit for the European Fisheries Areas Network (FARNET).

The objective of the seminar was to provide guidance on the establishment of new local groups and to help to identify methods and practices that can be used by these groups. It also provided stakeholders with an insight into the day to day activities of a group. The seminar also enabled participants to explore possibilities of twinning and mentoring to transfer knowledge from experienced to less experienced groups.
