Description of the area and its main challenges

GAC7 covers ten coastal municipalities from Cangas to La Guardia. The territory´s population is distributed around the urban centre of Vigo and its economy is based heavily on fishing, the maritime industry and the car industry (with a large Citröen plant and auxiliary companies in the area). It is also a traditional tourist zone with a need to ensure a respectful balance between the fishing sector and other sectors and their use of the natural, social and cultural environment. It is a zone with strong urban development pressure which needs significant investments in the productive primary sectors and in conservation measures in order to offset the negative effects that such heavy exploitation can have on the quality of life in the area.
