Description of the area and its main challenges

Our fisheries area (Gulf of Cádiz) includes the municipalities of Sanlúcar, Chipiona and Rota which experience a dependency on fishing of 4.07 %, 4.67 % and 2.14% of their populations, respectively. According to 2008 data, there are 111 ships with a home port in Sanlúcar, 49 in Chipiona and 37 in Rota. The main commercial fishery species are baby clams, crayfish, dab and meagre. The main challenges include the generational shift, competition on price and quality and the difficulties of turning our natural environment into a tourist attraction.
