Description of the area and its main challenges

It is a zone in which the fishing activity is essential for the economy with much employment and many other sectors depending directly or indirectly on the fisheries sector - this is particularly true in the municipalities of Cedeira, Burela and Viveiro. However, the coastline is also undergoing a steady process of ubanisation which is putting increasing pressure on the natural environment. The main challenges the area faces for its fishing community are ensuring fishermen obtain fair first sale prices as well as raising employment rates and encouraging better utilization of local endogenous resources.

Main focus of FLAG strategy

Having analyzed and debated the conclusions of the diagnosis of our zone, this FLAG proposes the idea of the sustainable maintenance of the fishing activity as a basic axis to our strategy. Actions are to serve to revitalize the sector in the FLAG zone from the extractive activity right up the chain and including indirect activities.
