Description of the area and its main challenges

The fishing area of East Almeria (Garrucha and Carboneras) has a long fishing tradition which has been dramatically reduced in the last years. The fleet is geared especially to fishing red shrimp and swordfish which gives the area a high value in terms of making it a gastronomic tourism destination. Part of our fishing area is inside the Nature Park of Cabo de Gata Níjar with excellent natural resources. As such, nature tourism, fishing-tourism and better valorization of our products through quality labels are key goals in its development.
