Description of the area and its main challenges

The FLAG operates in the coastal area of the province of la Coruña, known as La Costa da Morte - "the coast of death". La Coruña is one of four provinces in the autonomous region of Galicia in the northwest of Spain and has a land area of 963 Km² and is made up of 9 municipal boroughs. The area is characterized by a deeply rooted fishing tradition that benefits from the high quality of the fish and seafood that come from its savage waters. Nevertheless, tourism is also important, thanks to the geography of the area which has many beaches with fine sand and several protected areas. The main challenge of this territory is to diversify economically and to improve the quality of life for its citizens.
