Description of the area and its main challenges

The area stands out for its long and varied coastline, its pleasant climate and valuable natural resources as well as its strategic position between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean. Among various types of fishing practiced in the area, is the age old tradition of tuna fishing with trap nets or “almadrabas” and the area has three ports which are permitted to land this catch. Our economy has traditionally been based on fishing and cattle farming but is moving towards one increasingly based on the service sector.
