“FLAGs on the move: the second wave": Sofia, Bulgaria - 21-23rd March 2011

At the initiative of the European Commission and with the support of Bulgaria´s National Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture, the FARNET Support Unit organised its fourth European seminar for the Fisheries Local Action Groups (FLAGs): “FLAGs on the move: the second wave”. It took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, the 21st - 23rd of March, 2011.

The seminar aimed to provide recently selected FLAGs, and those in the final stages of being selected, with the information, skills and capacities for implementing their local development strategies and supporting successful projects in their areas.

Over 120 participants, including 70 FLAG and 15 member state representatives, participated in the seminar, making it a productive, encouraging and lively event. New FLAGs met with more experienced ones, to share “their story”, express needs, exchange experience and develop a common understanding of the challenges, opportunities and the priorities of Axis 4.

The seminar involved a series of presentations and working groups using practical examples to address the following topics: building and running effective partnerships; ensuring successful project selection and animation; and cultivating the private sector. A series of interactive sessions, such as "Message in a Bottle" and "Cooperation corner" provided participants with the opportunity to ask specific questions facing them in the implementation of Axis 4 and to connect with other FLAGs around cooperation requests and proposals.
