This is an interesting position, as the volunteer will work with 3 different organisations, advising and supporting them in marketing activities.

These organisations have been implementing activities for many years and all of them have full or part time employees who can guide and support the volunteer.

While working with one of the organisations, additionally a local Estonian employee will help to plan and conduct the activities, therefore the position is suitable for a person with previous marketing skills, but not necessary with the knowledge about marketing in Africa, as work-related guidance and support is available locally.

Volunteer will take occasional short trips to Gulu to support the tailoring activities of disabled women there. The guidance and support regarding the trip will be provided by the hosting organisation.

 

Volunteers and staff can enjoy Kampala and its surroundings, depending on the location where they find themselves. Volunteers must follow basic safety rules to ensure their security.
UPA will share before and at the very beginning of the project security a briefing and a welcome booklet with all healthy and safety rules to follow. The main risks are mostly those related to a big urban area (traffic roads, robberies, issues due to alcohol, money...).

The volunteers will receive training and advices regarding the security before and during the project.

Tasks
Marketing / communication tasks (Trust future project):

- strategic marketing and operational, promotion of the projects, creation of promotional supports (video, brochure, flyers, business card, …), promotion of volunteering (through also voluntarism) and internship, writing job description of volunteering opportunities, finding international market for Women empowerment’s craft products, etc.
- E-marketing: interactions with the web users on social networks (i.e. Facebook) and the website (update and writing).
- Developing the marketing strategy for the organization in line with organization objectives.
- Overseeing the organization’s marketing budget.
- Creation and publication of all marketing material in line with marketing plans.
- Planning and implementing promotional campaigns.
- Manage and improve lead generation campaigns, measuring results.
- Monitor and report on effectiveness of marketing communications.
- Analyzing potential strategic partner relationships for organization marketing.
- Photography / Video: in order to create awareness about Ugandan living conditions and culture, you can capture pictures or videos of Trust Future’s environment (community) or members (staff, beneficiaries)

Public Relations tasks (Trust future project):

- partnership-building : with the objective of recruiting new volunteers/internships and collecting supports, you will be looking for international partnerships with High School (social workers, teachers), Secondary School, foundations, companies (Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), etc.,
- search of local partners (building a strong network),
- fundraising programme (writing fundraising proposals and implementation)

Educational support tasks (Trust future project):

- formal education activities (i.e. foreign languages, computer skills) to provide recreational activities to children and youth such as games and Sports.

Capacity Building tasks (Trust future project):

- Train the staff in saving skills
- Engaging the community by training them in saving skills
- Developing strategies for finance (income of the organization)

Project management support tasks (KIFAD project):

- Assist the Programme Manager in planning, supervising, implementing, coordinating, monitoring and evaluation of all Socioeconomic groups project activities within the project area
- Plan and conduct mobilization and sensitization of the community on Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA) with consent of the local leaders.
- Conduct a minimum of 90 Home Visits to KIFAD beneficiaries of a quarterly basis.
- Compile and submit 5 success stories / case studies per month.
- Compile and Submit monthly reports to KIFAD VSLA supervisor without fail.
- Ensure Action Audits are done orderly.
- Manage data from the field, audit, entry, report preparation and report submission.
- Prepare and submit periodical / monthly, quarterly, annual work plans, reports and budgets on project activities to the Programme Manager for further action.
- Performs any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Programme Manager, or his/her designate.

Capacity building tasks (KIFAD project):

- Assess training needs and capacity gaps of VSLA Members.
- Support the formation and training of VSLA groups.
- Ensure weekly meeting of groups members are conducted and attended.
- Make frequent follow up of different groups formed and conduct support supervision.
- Prepare, organize and conduct periodical trainings for KIFAD target group in the project area.

Marketing and Capacity Building tasks (KDI project):

- Mapping the possible network of buyers for the products of 40 disabled tailors, negotiations with the buyers
- Marketing the products of approximately 40 trained tailors – 3 months training in 2 areas, Gulu and Kampala, participants are disabled women
- Supporting the trainings for the tailors
- Working on the long-term planning for the product marketing for 40 disabled tailors
- Ensuring the sustainability of the product marketing for 40 disabled women
- Supporting and training women on ICT solutions for marketing to ensure the independent online marketing skills

The candidate for EU Aid Volunteers must be a citizen of the EU or a third country national who is a long-term resident in an EU Member State, and must have a minimum age of 18 years.

Accommodation :
Uganda Pioneers Association shall identify a house for the volunteer/s, the cost of accommodation will be covered. This house shall accommodate 2 or 3 volunteers but each volunteer shall have his/her own sleeping room. The other facilities in the house shall be shared by the housemates e.g. the toilet, kitchen and the living room. The house shall be in Nansana for easy access to and from the project by the volunteer/s.

Food: Uganda Pioneers Association shall identify one of the local volunteers to support the EU Aid volunteers at their houses with activities such as the preparation of meals and to help gaining a general understanding of other aspects of the area, since the local volunteer will be living with the other volunteers.
While at the project, the volunteer shares his/her break (tea/coffee and lunch) with the rest of the staff members.

Working conditions:
UPA and its local partner will share all the relevant material to implement their activities.
The volunteer will work in 3 different projects. 2 days in a week at KDI, 1 day in a week at Trust Future, 1 day in a week at Kifad and one day in a week according to the choice of volunteer. As the tasks are similar in all three organizations, the volunteer can combine several activities, for example while looking for market for the products. Moreover, as every organization has its strengths and weaknesses, the volunteer can bring the skills from one organization to the other. Such setting would provide the organizations with a good chance to learn from each other.

The tasks proposed should be considered as guidelines and suggestions for possible activities. The tasks will be chosen according to the strengths of the volunteer and the specific needs of the organization of that specific moment. The tasks might change due to the changes in organization’s activities at the time of implementation of the project.

Between the 02/03 and the 16/03/2018: the pre-selected candidates will have a Skype interview with MONDO and UPA.

Between the 19/03 and the 31/03/2018: the candidates interviewed will know if they are selected to participate to the pre-departure training.

Between April and May 2018: The pre-selected candidates will participate to an online and face-to-face pre-departure trainings.

The final selection will be done after the pre-departure trainings at the end of May / beginning of June 2018.

Important notice: additional candidates may be shortlisted for a single position and proposed for the EU Aid Volunteers training. This is to ensure that for each position, substitute volunteers may be chosen to replace the candidate in case he or she resigns or is no longer available. Where more than one candidate has been shortlisted for a single position, final selection takes places following the training.
