Senior EU Aid Volunteer in Communication in Guatemala

— 1 positions
Deployment dates:

The European Commission is not responsible for the translation of the vacancies.

Movement for Peace – MPDL (Spain) and ADICE (France) are non-profit organizations with extensive experience in the fields of development and humanitarian aid which are jointly implementing the project “EU Aid Volunteers: MPDL Deployment of Volunteers for Peace-building and Women's Rights” together with 5 other organizations in third countries.

The project aims at enhancing the EU capacity to provide needs-based humanitarian aid in vulnerable and disaster-affected communities in 5 countries: Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Bolivia and Perú. In the course of the project 16 volunteers (both junior and senior) will be deployed. Volunteers will support humanitarian activities giving special consideration to the gender dimension.

The hosting organization for this position, MPDL Guatemala, develops humanitarian aid and cooperation programmes since 1996, following the signing of the peace agreements which ended the internal armed conflict. Its activities are addressed to promote peace-building, the progressive disarmament of the states and freedom, as fundamental values. MPDL Guatemala currently prioritises the strengthening of democratic governance, the eradication of violence against women and peace-building, as the main axes of its development strategy, intended to improve the overall situation of insecurity and impunity in Guatemala. Its initiatives are developed together with Guatemalan Civil Society Organisations (CALDH, SEDEM, Las Poderosas Teatro, Redmusovi). It is also part of international and national advocacy networks.

In spite of important legislative advances in terms of violence against women, sexual violence and human trafficking, Guatemala continues to have one of the highest rates in the world in terms of murders and structural violence against women.

Strengthening democratic institutions and support for decentralization, access of victims of violence to integral reparation, promotion of mechanisms for civil society participation and interlocution with obligations holders and raising awareness of conflict with a preventive approach constitute the main challenges MPDL Guatemala is working on together with its partner organizations in Guatemala to contribute to the construction of a firm, just and lasting peace.

The overall purpose of this volunteer placement is to support MPDL Guatemala in designing and implementing a communication strategy by developing guidelines and tools in order to improve the communication capacities and the visibility of MPDL Guatemala.

Working closely with staff, the volunteer shall review the communication tools and activities planned, incorporating feedback and working with relevant staff to assist in quality content gathering, production of communication and visibility materials and capacity building of MPDL Guatemala and its partners to develop the communication strategy.
