Phare Ponleu Selpak or “The Brightness of the Arts” founded in 1994 is a non-profit Cambodian association providing a nurturing and creative environment where young people can access free quality arts training, education and social support, while restoring the lost culture and identity of Cambodia.
Phare Ponleu Selpak started helping refugee children cope with trauma through drawing. Over the years the program expanded to include many more artistic disciplines including theatre, music, dance, circus, graphic design and animation. To address the needs of the community, Phare now also runs a free Kindergarten and library open to community and provides social and emotional support to the most vulnerable children and impoverished families.
For 2017, 440 students are attending the Visual and Applied Arts school; 188 students are attending the Performing Arts school; 250 students are attending our Kindergarten. 800 families are monitored and 200 supported by our Social Support services in the form of income, meals and school supplies subsidies.
