Junior EU Aid Volunteer, Volunteer management, Peru (12 months)

— 1 positions
Deployment dates:

The project is elaborated within the framework of the Strategic Plan 2016 - 2019. It has two components: 1) Management of the volunteer program in its national version and 2) Development of activities around the memory of the internal conflict that Peru lived through the years 1980 - 2000

The work of the volunteer contributes to the implementation of the volunteer program on human rights. From the pilot experience in progress, in which university students (professional volunteering) and schoolchildren and adults (punctual volunteering) participate, lessons learned can be generated from their evaluation. Sharing these lessons learned and those obtained from the experiences of international volunteering with the tutors of the Lima headquarters, it will allow strengthening their monitoring skills. The person responsible for the program will replicate the training at the Apurimac and Ayacucho sites.

It will also provide concrete actions in the El Ojo que Llora memorial, specifically in the organization of commemorative activities, dissemination, exchange of experiences, systematization of information for the memory calendar, organization of cultural activities and the management of volunteers punctual activities in the memorial, may be trained to guide groups of school (optional)

Expected results / objectives:

- National volunteering is consolidated through adequate management to evaluate the pilot experience and the priorities established in the Institutional Strategic Plan.

- The tutors of the Lima headquarters have strengthened their capacities for the monitoring of national and foreign volunteers.

- The memory of the victims (civilian and military) contributes to processes of awareness of the new generations through creative actions, reflection and solidarity.

- The memories of the victims (civilian and military) contribute to the demands of justice and the implementation of the law to search for the disappeared.

Although in Peru there is a national norm to promote volunteering and there has been progress in the implementation of a specific direction for its promotion in the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations (MIMP), its development from is still weak. At the level of Lima there are several institutions that receive volunteers, others that promote it as a service to the community as part of the social responsibility of companies, some universities or religious organizations. Most of them refer to specific actions. APRODEH seeks, through its volunteering program, to promote the participation of youth, adults and schoolchildren through a more permanent and committed action for human rights, offering opportunities to Peruvian university students (professional volunteering); young people, adults and schoolchildren (punctual volunteering) that allows them to contribute according to their interests, abilities and availability. It seeks to ensure that this participation is informed, so that it is proposed to generate specific, semi-annual and annual training spaces for its volunteers.
Lima is a city with a population of 9 million inhabitants. As every large city, there are areas with different levels of security. The areas in which the volunteer will carry out his work on a daily basis where the headquarters is located and the El Ojo que Llora (Jesus Maria District) memorial is located (districts of Pueblo Libre, Miraflores, Lince) are quiet and robberies or assaults are not frequent. A problem that affects the country in general is the lack of respect for traffic regulations by drivers and pedestrians. In Lima, in some areas there is evidence of greater awareness and also greater control by the authorities.
At their arrival, the volunteer will be trained to prevent any kind of difficulties in their personal safety and in their health.

Volunteering management tasks:

- Support in the management of national volunteering (call, insertion, monitoring, training)
- Support in the training of APRODEH's team of tutors for the management of volunteer work at the central office (organization, preparation of documents for training, selection of texts for previous readings, preparation of topics).

- Support in the dissemination of the activities of the volunteer program (social networks and institutional web).
- Support in memory activities and symbolic reparation in Lima, particularly those in the El Ojo que Llora memorial.
