Médicos del Mundo Sahara is an independent association that works towards full achievement of the right to health, especially for those who are victims of humanitarian crises.
From a humanitarian point of view, the Sahrawi people are victims of the infringement of international law and subsequent UN treaties and declarations regarding its right to self-determination. An important part of the Sahrawi people have been living in refugee camps since the 70s; experiencing great vulnerability, a total dependency on external aid, lack of food sovereignity, and denial of basic human rights.
MdM Sahara is present since 1995 without interruption. Since then, several projects have been implemented covering health policy and administrative management, basic health care & infrastructure, health education, health personnel development, reproductive health care & family planning, STD control, provision of specialised medical services, human rights, gender equality and emergency response.
