The Médicos del Mundo experience in Mozambique began in 2000 with an emergency health care project targeted at the population affected by floods in the Matola District (Maputo province), which was subsequently extended to several districts of the province of Cabo Delgado. Fifteen years later, after the temporary closure in Cabo Delgado, the organisation continues to work in Matola mainly in the areas of Sexual and Reproductive Rights and Gender Based Violence (GBV), following the strategic guidelines of the Ministries of Health (MISAU) and Gender, Childhood and Social Action (MGCAS). Also, we are always monitoring the humanitarian situation in Mozambique, with the support and the coordination of the Humanitarian Aid Department of MdM Spain, as it recently happened with the sever drought that affected the Southern Africa region leaving 150,000 people without food, only in Mozambique. MdM Mozambique launched in March 2017 an exploratory mission in order to gain an overview of the consequences in the Northern Province of Cabo Delgado.
The main areas of work of MdM-Mozambique are as follows:
 ·        Gender Based Violence : prevention and GVB survivors care
·         Sexual and Reproductive Health
·         Adolescent Health and Family Planning
·         Public Health System Strengthening
·         Health Primary Care
·         Community Health System reinforcement
·         Human rights and Gender equality
