EUROPEAN CIVIL PROTECTION AND HUMANITARIAN AID OPERATIONS

Junior EU Aid Volunteer Communications, Peru

Junior
— 1 positions
Deployment dates:
-
The EU Aid Volunteers is an initiative of the European Union. It brings together volunteers and organisations from different countries, providing practical support to humanitarian aid projects and contributing to strengthening the local capacity and resilience of disaster-affected communities. Participants in the EU Aid Volunteers initiative must be over 18 years of age and be a citizen of an EU Member State or a long-term resident in the EU.

Assignment

The volunteer will be engaged in Aprodeh’s headquarters communication activities in Lima, Peru. The project responds to the institutional strategic communication plan through which Aprodeh seeks to improve its internal and external communication, thus strengthening the generation of synergies, institutional image and institutional strategies in favour of human rights.

The volunteer will support Aprodeh in the achievement of the following results:

- Improvement of internal communication channels.

- Strengthening the communication capabilities of the entity.

- Improving the dissemination of news and projects of the entity through social networks.

- Generate network management strategies adapted to the context and situation of the country and the target audience to which Aprodeh is addressing.

- Creation of spaces for dissemination and reflection on prioritized topics.

- Generate innovative content to strengthen institutional advocacy strategies.

For all this, the volunteer must at all times consider the importance of the socio-political situation of the country, as well as the cultural identity of the populations with which Aprodeh works.

APRODEH headquarters are located in Lima, capital city of Peru, in Jesús María district, a middle class district with easy access to many parts of the city.

Lima is a city of 9 million inhabitants, and, as any big city, has areas with different security situations. Major security issues are robberies and assaults, which are concentrated in some areas, and a high rate of traffic accidents. APRODEH will therefore emphasize safety regulations to avoid any mishap. The public transport system, although it has improved, has still an informal management component.

Though there are strong confrontations between the majority party in the congress and the executive, the political and social situations are not affected and it does not lead to security issues.
The districts where the volunteer will carry out the daily are safe areas with rare cases of robbery or assault.

Healthcare in the capital is good, both in private and public medical centres, however it is suggested to use private medical facilities. The volunteer will be trained to prevent any challenge in their personal safety and health.

Being located on the Peruvian central cost, Lima has several beaches. The presence of the sea comes with high humidity rates. The average winter temperature is 15-17° and the weather is cloudy and foggy. In summer the temperature is average 28°.

Lima has transportation services to all the regions in the country (land terminal and airport). It has all the amenities such as internet, shopping centers, good restaurants and a variety of cultural activities, recreation and learning. It is possible to find a great variety of food from all regions of the country, international, as well as preparations for vegetarians, vegans or celiacs. Lima stands out for an active cultural life and offers opportunities for training and practicing sports.
