The volunteer will work in Association "Merkuri" - a women organization that deals with women rights, gender issues, prevention of Domestic violence and support of women - victims of domestic violence. Organization works in West Georgia since 2007, from March 2018 Association "Merkuri" run shelter for women affected by Domestic violence.

Organization run project in different fields: gender issues, prevention of domestic violence, advocacy, youth programme, community development, humanitarian action, culture, environment etc.

Main objectives for Volunteer are:

  • to elaborate and implement of a communication strategy/action.
  • provide visibility of organization in society by organizing different events, communication with journalists and managing information in web space.
  • to organize donation and charity actions for shelter for women victims of domestic violence and their children.

Volunteer will work in office of Association "Merkuri” with strong connection with staff and other volunteers. Volunteer will take part in preparation of visual and informational materials for current projects (design, formulation of main messages etc), run informational and crown funding campaigns in social networks, promote planned activities, work with regional media, make photo/video materials about activities etc.

Operational context:
Volunteer will live and work in Zugdidi - biggest town in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Region (West Georgia) and last town before administrative boundary line which split Tbilisi controlled territory and Self-Proclaimed Abkhazia. This geo-political circumstance has influence on social, economic and political life in city and in whole region. Around 80 000 internally displaced people (IDP, internal refuges) are still hosted in Samegrelo Region. Hard social and economic situation and post-conflict syndrome are reflecting in everyday life of local and internally displaced people.
Population of Samegrelo is more then 350 000, inhabitants of Zugdidi - around 70 000.

Security context:
Despite of the hard experience in 1990s, nowadays Samegrelo region (and whole Georgia as well) is secure place. Ongoing conflicts are determinate as "frozen" and city is located in demilitarized zone. Overall security situation on the ground has remained stable and calm.
Main risks for volunteer are connected with road traffic, disaster, personal safety and security.

The volunteers will receive detail information about Safety and Security challenges and ways of risks prevention during Security Briefing and during whole project.

Tasks

- Develop a communication strategy/action plan.
- Manage the organisation’s public image and public relations.
- Website and social media maintenance: create website content and update
information, upload documents, make changes to the website when necessary.
- Support in developing communication/visibility materials (Leaflets, posters,
banners, videos, pictures etc.).
- Promote awareness campaigns and collection of funds, preparation of local communications and fund raising events.
- Promote project events/achievements in social media.
- Facilitate project/organisation events (closing events, conferences, etc.).
- Prepare publications, releases, information materials, newsletters, human
stories etc.
- Manage and enrich the photo and video archive.
- Inputs to the reports (project interim/final report).
- Draft and publish articles describing volunteer's experience in the field;
- Gather audiovisual materials to be used in a public awareness activity in the volunteer's local community in Europe;
- Train relevant staff on utilizing communication tools in their work and projects.
- Train/follow up with staff on use brand identity.

Required competences
  • Bachelor degree in Public Relations and Communications.
  • Good knowledge of the English language (B2-C1)/ Russian will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of graphic design software.
  • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills.
  • Result-oriented, proactive, creative, communicative and optimistic.
  • Motivated to contribute towards development and to serve others.
  • Strong autonomy and adaptability.

The candidate for EU Aid Volunteers must be a citizen of the EU or a third country national who is a long-term resident in an EU Member State, and must have a minimum age of 18 years.

The selection will be done without any discrimination and based on equal treatment process (same criteria, interviews...).

Condition of service

Volunteer will receive Georgian Language non-formal courses, will increase knowledge about Georgian Culture and traditions, will build network with Georgian NGO workers and journalists, will raise awareness about everyday work of Georgian NGO's.

This volunteering position will take place in small grassroots organization developing mainly local development aid projects. It is expected from the volunteer to be autonomous and able to take initiatives to support the hosting organization and local community in the development of their projects and activities.

WORKING CONDITIONS :
Coordinator of Gender Network of Samegrelo Region (EU Aid Volunteer) will work in office of Association “Merkuri” 5 days per week, maximum 40 hours a week, and have two days free (weekend)
The volunteer has the right to take 2 days holidays per worked month. The working calendar will be corresponding to the agenda and system established in the field. Some flexibility may be asked to implement some activities during the evening or the weekend if it is necessary.

Association “Merkuri” will provide volunteer with working space, which includes:
- Own desk
- Personal computer
- Internet connection (WI-FI, DSL)
- Office equipment (copier, printer, scanner, digital camera, projector, speakers)
- Office materials
Human and technical resources of the organization will be available to the volunteers any time.
In case project related task will implement out from office, we will arrange booking of place (make agreement with local government or owners), provide necessary information about transport and other related topics. Also provide Georgian speaker person who will help to volunteer during communication with participants of events.

The working calendar will be corresponding to the agenda and system established in the field. Some flexibility may be asked to implement some activities during the evening or the weekend if it is necessary.

LIVING CONDITIONS :
Association “Merkuri” provide accommodation for volunteers in Zugdidi.
Volunteer will be accommodated in host family in private house. Volunteer will have separate locked room and access to necessary facilities (share kitchen, bathroom, washing machine). The house will be in Zugdidi near to our office (approximately 10-15 minutes’ walk) or with a good connection to the centre.
All member of family will be instructed about meaning of volunteering, rules of program, some intercultural differences, instruct them about procedures of communication with Association “Merkuri”, give contacts of responsible persons, explain procedures of complains and conflict management.

The project covers:
- international travel covered directly by the sending organisation
- accommodation in single locked room
- subsistance monthly allowance: 243,91 euros - to cover food, housing necessities, clothes, potential extra expenses in specific areas…).
- resettlement allowance - post deployment: 100 euros per month stayed in the project
- visa fees
- Insurance

Selection process

At the end of April: the candidates interviewed will know if they are selected to participate to the pre-departure training. The selected volunteers will be required to send a passport/ID copy for the registration.
In May 2019: The pre-selected candidates will participate to an online training, which is compulsory.
In June 2019: The pre-selected candidates will participate to a face-to-face pre-departure trainings (12 days).The candidates who have already participated in the EUAV training and have been pre-selected, need to send a copy of the EUAV certification.
The final selection will be done after the pre-departure trainings at the end of June 2019.
