Junior Charities Fundraiser in Georgia

The EU Aid Volunteers is an initiative of the European Union. It brings together volunteers and organisations from different countries, providing practical support to humanitarian aid projects and contributing to strengthening the local capacity and resilience of disaster-affected communities. Participants in the EU Aid Volunteers initiative must be over 18 years of age and be a citizen of an EU Member State or a long-term resident in the EU.

Association "Merkuri" opened shelter for women-victims of domestic violence and their children in 2018. It is still only shelter for survivals of domestic violence in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region. Funding of shelter on 90% is depended from donors’ grants. Because of COVID-19 crises priorities of donor organisation were changed that caused lack of financial recourses for operating of shelter. Thanks to local and international partners shelter continues hosting of beneficiaries. But Association "Merkuri" would like to increase rate of donation to ensure work of shelter for next months.

Volunteer will be responsible for organisation of fundraising/charity campaign(s) for shelter of victims of domestic violence.

Charity fundraiser volunteer should be focused on strategic planning, implementation and monitoring of our fundraising operations and processes to ensure that we meet strategic fundraising objectives, whilst creating a culture of innovation, development, continuous improvement in general. One of the main goals for volunteer is to collect donation for shelter for women - victims of domestic violence and their children that is running by Association "Merkuri".

Operational context
Volunteer will live and work in Zugdidi - biggest town in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Region (West Georgia) and last town before administrative boundary line which split Tbilisi controlled territory and Self-Proclaimed Abkhazia. This geo-political circumstance has influence on social, economic and political life in city and in whole region. Zugdidi was affected during civil wars in 1992-93. Around 80 000 internally displaced people (IDP, internal refuges) are still hosted in Samegrelo Region. Hard social and economic situation and post-conflict syndrome are reflecting in everyday life of local and internally displaced people.
Population of Samegrelo is more then 350 000, inhabitants of Zugdidi - around 70 000.

Security context
Despite of the hard historical experience, nowadays Samegrelo region (and whole Georgia as well) is secure place. Ongoing conflicts are determinated as "frozen" and city is located in demilitarized zone. Overall security situation on the ground has remained stable and calm.
Main risks for volunteer are connected with road traffic, disaster, personal safety and security.
The volunteers will receive detail information about Safety and Security challenges and ways of risks prevention during Security Briefing and during whole project.

Main actions to prevention CVOVID19 infection required by government:
- Face masks must be worn in all enclosed public spaces.
- Keep washing your hands regularly
- Stay at least 2 metres apart - or 1 metre with a face covering or other precautions.
The Government may announce additional, stricter regulations and prohibitions in the future depending on COVID-19 conditions throughout the country.

Tasks of volunteer includes:

- Development and implementation of an online fundraising programme
- Design promotional materials and increase awareness of an organization’s work, goals, and financial needs.
- Create a strong fundraising message that appeals to potential donators
- Use online platforms to raise donations
- Organize campaigns or events to solicit donations
- Evaluate the success of previous fundraising events
- Train volunteers in fundraising procedures and practices
- Ensure that all legal reporting requirements are satisfied
- Pursues fundraising opportunities that offer high long-term funding potential and prioritize those that offer the most unrestricted funds.
- Implements fundraising best practices
- Share basic knowledge, methods or tools for collecting donation online with staff of organisation and other volunteers.


Required competences
  • At least 3 years of project managing, fundraising campaigns OR related work in digital fundraising. Bachelor’s degree in related fields  (management, marketing, communications or public relations) may be helpful ;
  • Knowledge of and proven ability to develop and implement digital fundraising strategies ;
  • Experience with building and maintaining different digital tools of donation (forms, surveys etc.);
  • Is interested in training and mentoring volunteer fundraisers and is comfortable presenting to groups of people ;
  • Able to multitask, meet deadlines, set priorities, and problem-solve in a fast-moving, remote work environment ;
  • A commitment to mission and values of Association 'Merkuri/ sensitivity toward problems of domestic violence survivors ;
  • Self-motivated, requiring minimal direction to accomplish high-level work ;
  • Results Oriented. Must consistently set and achieve realistic business goals and understand the importance of meeting quality standards and deadlines ;
  • IT and social media skills.

The candidate for EU Aid Volunteers must be a citizen of the EU or a third country national who is a long-term resident in an EU Member State, and must have a minimum age of 18 years.

The selection will be done without any discrimination and based on equal
treatment process (same criteria, interviews, etc.).

Condition of service

Volunteer will have opportunity to get deep knowledge about gender and domestic violence related problems in Samegrelo region, about work environment for NGOs in West Georgia, gender equality issues in target municipalities; will got knowledge about cross-sectoral cooperation between Georgian NGOs and business, donators and charity specific in Georgia. Volunteer will receive informal Georgian language course with locals. He/she will improve knowledge about Georgian culture. Volunteer will create new contacts and build partnership.

The volunteers will have to adapt and to be flexible regarding the local working and living environment that is very different from the European one. The volunteer must be autonomous and be able to take initiatives.
Volunteer will work in office of Association “Merkuri” 5 days per week.
Association “Merkuri” will provide volunteer with working space, which includes:
- Own desk
- Access to Personal computer
- Internet connection (WI-FI, DSL)
- Office equipment (copier, printer, scanner, digital camera, projector, speakers)
- Office materials
Human and technical resources of the organization will be available to the volunteers any time.
In case project related task will implement out from office, we will arrange booking of place (make agreement with local government or owners), provide necessary information about transport and other related topics. Also provide Georgian speaker person who will help to volunteer during communication with participants of events.

Association “Merkuri” provide accommodation for volunteers in Zugdidi.
Volunteer will be accommodated in host family in private house. Volunteer will have separate individual locked room and access to necessary facilities (share kitchen, bathroom, washing machine).
All member of family will be instructed about meaning of volunteering, rules of program, some intercultural differences, instruct their about procedures of communication with Association “Merkuri”, give contacts of responsible persons, explain procedures of complains and conflict management.

A monthly Subsistence Lump Sum (282,79 € per month), will be paid to the volunteer to cover subsistence (food, any other personal items) in addition to a local transportation reimbursement (up to 40€ per month).
In addition, after the return, 100€ of post deployment resettlement allowance per month of deployment done, will be foreseen.

Visa fees, insurance and international travel (1 round trip ticket) will be covered directly by sending organization.
The volunteer will work full time (max 40h per week). The volunteer will work in the hosting Organisation offices and with the local partners. The working calendar will be corresponding to the agenda and system established in the field. Some flexibility may be asked to implement some activities during the evening or the weekend if it is necessary.

Days off
According to the hosting country regulation. The volunteer 2 days of holidays per month done within the project.

Selection process

Interested candidates are expected to send their application form, self-assessment questionnaire and Europass CV to with subject Junior EUAV – Charities Fundraiser in Georgia.

Shortlisting and Interview dates are: 21/01/2022 – 31/01/2022

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview with a representative of the sending and hosting organisation. The interviews will be conducted online through Zoom platform.
Please note that more than one candidate will be pre-selected and sent to the training, the final successful candidate will be selected after the training.
