Since 2000, GVC Mozambique has been operating in the food security and education sectors in many areas of this country, but especially in its provinces of Maputo and Cabo Delgado. GVC projects are aimed at fighting food insecurity, malnutrition and exploitation of natural and human resources. In order to preserve biodiversity, GVC promotes agro-ecological principles in agriculture and sustainable use of natural resources (pastures, forests and water sources), by applying a participatory approach in projects. GVC supports small producers, family farming, autonomy and consumption of local products, as well as fair access to markets and the protection of agricultural workers’ rights. In the education sector, GVC’s actions focus on literacy and vocational training, mainly for the female and young population, by encouraging a community-based approach that highlights local knowledge, and reinforces the relationship between community and school in combating drop-out rates and social exclusion. GVC is a non-governmental, secular and independent organisation founded in Bologna (Italy) in 1971. We have been active all over the world for more than 40 years and we are currently present in 26 countries.
