Since 1995, GVC Burundi has been operating emergency programmes against food insecurity in seven provinces of the country (Bujumbura, Bubanza, Cibitoke, Makamba, Rutana, Ruyigi and Cankuzo). During these 23 years, GVC has worked in the health, nutrition, food security, protection and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) sectors to tackle acute malnutrition through education in nutrition, directed at the players involved in the issue. GVC has been managing activities based on malnutrition prevention for children (0-5 years) and nutrition education through the FARN (Foyers d'Apprentissage et de Réhabilitation Nutritionnelle/ Learning and Nutritional Rehabilitation Centres) approach by strengthening the capacities of various community actors ‒ in particular the role of women in introducing conscious education in the entire food production process.
Moreover, GVC has been working to support local administration development since 2005, also thanks to the return of political and social stability within the country.
GVC is a non-governmental, secular and independent organisation founded in Bologna (Italy) in 1971. We have been active all over the world for more than 40 years and we are currently present in 26 countries.
