FORESTS project is a 3 continent -partnership of 9 sending and hosting organisations, experts in volunteering or forestry risks prevention, which foresees to deploy 27 European and 26 national volunteers in order to develop citizen engagement in reducing the vulnerability of communities living in forests areas and to strengthen their resilience capacity. To achieve this ideal, Forests will implement 4 strategies that complete each other to meet the needs of the beneficiaries. To better understand the challenges that forest-dependent people are and will be facing in the future and to create space for networking between the stakeholders in each region where the consortium's host organizations are working. Thus, volunteers will be deployed in each of these regions to conduct a detailed three-month mapping study to highlight current and future sources of vulnerability of these communities. The deployed volunteers will then create seminars where local actors will be could express themselves on the threats they are experiencing and plan together intervention strategies based on ecosystem dynamics and reduction of the vulnerability. Disseminating information, creating social links and helping local people to set up projects added to awareness-raising activities are the keys to reduce the vulnerability and strengthen the resilience capacities of these populations that we will cover simultaneously. The third strategy aims sustainability, raising awareness, and fundamentally changing attitudes. Therefore we are planning activities to get attention of the youth, involving them more actively in projects defending the rights of the communities living in forest areas. Through modern campaigns and tools developed by the volunteers, partners will be able to meet and inform young people on these issues with adequate and efficient communication. At different key stages of the project, 3 consortium meetings and expert trainings will enable good practice exchange to share knowledge.
