VOL4GEN – “EU Aid Volunteers supporting gender mainstreaming in humanitarian action” is a 24-months project conceived under the general objective of enhancing gender mainstreaming in humanitarian contexts. To that aim, 4 specific objectives have been defined: SO1: Improving gender approach in protection actions for communities affected by humanitarian crises; SO2: Enhancing women's participation in disaster risk reduction and LRRD activities in disaster-prone areas SO3: Reinforcing gender-sensitive Communication, Advocacy and Accountability to affected populations as a tool for effective humanitarian action SO4: Enhancing the capacities of consortium organizations and partnership building within the EU AID Volunteers Initiative 56 EU Aid volunteers will be deployed to 17 hosting organisations (HO) in 14 countries of Latina America & Caribbean (Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Guatemala, Cuba, Haiti), Africa (Kenya, Mauritania, Morocco), Middle East (Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon) and Asia (Myanmar). This will be complemented by on-line volunteering, capacity building (CB) and technical assistance (TA) activities, so that the quality of the actions is ensured, partners and partnership keep on strengthening, and gender approach is mainstreamed and owned by all participant organisations. The main results will be not only strengthened humanitarian action -namely protection, DRR and LRRD activities- of the hosting partners, but also increased gender approach and gender-sensitive communication of all partners. The partnership combines the experience of organisations such as Alianza por la Solidaridad, WWGVC, ActionAid Hellas and AA Myanmar with newly certified offices (Alianza Morocco, WW Brazil) and local organisations (Religiosas Adoratrices and ASOM, in Colombia, and ActionAid Kenya). This combination enables a solid partnership, capable of keeping high standards and appropriate guidance for the newcomers, while continuing learning from each other and past experiences.
