ACTED builds on a 20-year presence in the country as well as its regional experience, to respond to some of the challenges faced by communities in a country at the heart of Central Asia: natural disasters as well as the need for inclusive and socially equitable economic and sustainable growth.
While Kyrgyzstan is prone to natural disasters, including earthquakes, disaster risk reduction programming aimed at preventing and mitigating disaster occurrences are core to ACTED’s operations in the country, with the strengthening of local community capacities to prepare for and withstand natural disasters.
ACTED also fosters inclusive sustainable growth within Kyrgyzstan, by establishing value-added programming to support economic development in the poorest areas of the country through long-term district development planning. Actions include building the technical capacity of farmers to improve agricultural production with climate smart agriculture, water-saving techniques and introducing new, higher-yielding crops for local and regional markets, while supporting community planning with community stakeholders to engage in local development platforms.
With its partners, ACTED is also increasing and improving accessibility of the legal system for marginalised populations, especially in rural communities, by developing new public tools, providing free legal services, online innovative legal tools and engaging legal practitioners to advocate for practical improvements to the legal system.
