General objective is to support European Member States in their efforts to reduce the public heath impact of morbidity and disability related to oral diseases. As part of the Health Information and Knowledge System, the oral health project objective is to provide quality, relevant and timely data, information and knowledge in order to support public health decision-making at European, national, sub-national and local level. Choosing the most relevant set of data indicators, an up-to-date information technology, methods and relevant statistical analysis, represent some of the essential steps to assure a functional Health Information System. The objectives of the programme are in line with those of the public health Community action programme (2003-2008): 1. To strengthen the health system performance through a better system organization. 2. To improve the quality of the health information while facilitating Member States cooperation 3. To encourage the development of relevant and action-oriented community health policies with priority focus at reducing health inequalities.

The European Core Indicators for Diabetes mellitus (EUCID) project sets up a stable organization to collect and analyse data on health status and care delivery for diabetes mellitus in the EU countries and the future member states in order to promote the planning for a good diabetes health status and diabetes care organization in the different countries. The first objective is to show the feasibility of the data collection. The second objective is to create a stable platform for the data collection. The third objective is to create a reporting platform for the indicators using the existing structure of the EC. These objectives are to be reported in a paper with the agreement of the different participating partners after the start up meeting and a final report showing the collected indicators, with a proposal for collection of data in the future, using a stable paper and electronic platform for reporting.

The aim of the project is to develop a European network of all the players active in the area of dementia to jointly develop consensual indicators and to develop an ongoing dialogue between these actors to identify ways of developing synergies and a closer collaboration on a European level. For the definition of these indicators, the network to bring together a number of established pan-European organisations, European projects and informal collaborations, such as the Cochrane Dementia and Cognitive Improvement Group, the European Alzheimer`s Disease Consortium, the European Association of Geriatric Psychiatry, the Dementia Panel of the European Federation of Neurological Societies, the INTERDEM (Early detection and timely intervention in dementia) group, the International Association of Gerontology (European Region) and the North Sea Dementia Research Group. Recognising the global dimension of dementia and the need to extend its collaborative effort, Alzheimer Europe would furthermore like to actively involve Alzheimer`s disease International. This network would respond to the objectives of the Community Action Programme concerning the creation of a sustainable health monitoring and information system for Alzheimer`s disease and other forms of dementia. Particular attention would be paid to the development of information and the definition of indicators relating to the prevalence, diagnosis, treatment and management of Alzheimer`s disease and related disorders, as well as the risk factors and potential risk reduction or prevention strategies for this group of diseases. Finally, the socio-economic impact of dementia would be studied, as well as the social support provided by Member States to people with dementia and their carers.

The general objective of this proposal is the development of indicators to monitor the health status of migrants in Europe by using existing health related databases and surveys. Furthermore, a European network of epidemiological observatories on migrants’ health will be established. This network will generate a European overview of comparable and exchangeable data on socio-demographic and health profile of migrants for selected health problems. Specific attention will be paid to the conceptual, methodological, ethical and practical issue of identifying ethnic minorities in health databases and to the assessment of valid comparisons between migrant groups within countries and between countries.
