a) Maintenance: to ensure proper data-collection for the ISS (formerly EHLASS) - as a continuation and further development of the IPP status (Injury Prevention Program 1999-2003)
b) Development: to extend the ISS survey to all injuries, including intentional injuries
c) Promotion: to expand the ISS survey to as many old and new Member Stares as possible.

Ad a) The suboptimal data quality in terms of inter-MS comparability and MS-representativity is causing severe problems of data interpretation. Proposed counter measures are the full implementation and maintenance of the ISS Quality Management Manual (IPP 2000) and Training Session (IPP 2002), including a standardized EU-Injury Model (IPP 1999 and 2000) for incidence rate calculation and reporting. The assessable objective is to have the ISS Quality Management System implemented in all participating MS for the 2005 data collection, yielding valid and widely comparable injury incidence rates an meta data in a standard reporting format.
Ad b) The limited scope of the ISS injury definition - for historical reasons the ISS data collection is currently restricted to Home and Leisure Accidents (HLA) – leaves out chances for a cost-efficient data supply for cross-sectoral injury prevention, for intentional injuries in particular.
Proposed counter measure and assessable objective is the evaluation and implementation of the already available ‘All Injuries ISS Coding Manual` (IPP 2002 ; which is compatible to the ICE-Classification of Injuries ICE-CI) in all participating MS for the 2005 data collection.

Ad c) As a consequence of challenge 1 and 2, but also because of the cutting of funds for national ISS/EHLASS data collection, ISS participation has declined in 2002. Proposed counter measures are an enforced support of ISS National Data Administrators through a special ISS Network and an increased production of regular ISS results (in close cooperation with the Injury Working Party Secretariat). In analogy to cancer registration we propose the establishment of an European Network of Injury Registries (ENIR) as a forum and means of ISS promotion throughout Europe. The assessable objective is to have all old and new MS in the ISS Network in 2004 and to have the majority of current MS and at least three new MS report ISS-data in 2005.

The specific objectives of InjuryConf-2011 are to:

1. offer a forum for the exchange of experiences in implementing and in monitoring the impact of national strategies and actions amongst MSs and for benchmarking policies and their outcomes;
2. highlight successful safety promotion initiatives and actions as evidenced through the various European collaborative projects, to encourage the uptake of good practices and to facilitate their implementation in particular in New Member States;
3. highlight opportunities and challenges to mainstream injury prevention and safety promotion into relevant policy domains; and to
4. enhance the involvement of relevant stakeholders within countries (i.e. government, NGO`s, academia and private sector) and to foster sustainable and collaborative commitments as to actions for injury prevention and safety promotion in MSs.

Special attention will be given to EU-collaborative actions and programmes that have been initiated in the framework of the health programme. These actions relate to the priorities as identified in the 2007-Council Recommendation.

All priority issues will be profiled during the conference, with special emphasize on:
- the development of proper injury surveillance and monitoring infrastructures in MSs; and
- stimulating evidence-based action to address injury prevention priorities at national, regional and municipal levels in the EU, through co-ordinated processes of assessing and benchmarking progress in safety programmes in countries.

The conference will build upon international evidence presented at the Safety 2010 World Conference in London and profile models of European and national adaptation and implementation of the international evidence base.

The project aims to thoroughly assess the human exposure to air hazards emitted by building materials commonly used in Europe. The project output is a major step to gain better understanding of the sources hazardous compounds existing in the indoor environment and play a key role in the determination of the well-being and comfortable living of occupants. More specifically, emission factors and exposure levels from building materials emissions most frequently used in Europe will be obtained. This wealth of information would be subsequently used by policy makers, health professionals and building material producers in the enlarged European Union. The general objectives of the project are: (1) To assess existing situation by collecting and reviewing existing indoor emission data from construction products covered by the CPD as well as emissions from other building materials, mostly used in Europe. (2) To conduct laboratory tests to study and prioritize building materials based on their toxic emissions in the ind r environment. (3) To conduct indoor pollution measurements in houses and public buildings. Effort will be made some schools to be included. The above objectives illustrate that the proposed action contains all the requirements needed to build a comprehensive and scientifically sound database that characterizes indoor emissions and toxic levels from building products and materials widely used within the enlarged European Union. The specific objectives of the project include: 1. The collection and review of existing emission factors from construction products covered by the CPD and other building materials used in Europe. The existing database of emitted compounds should be thoroughly analyzed to raise a variety of public health related questions and issues. Emission data will be used not only for a first step prioritization of building materials but also to quantify their emissions and expected exposure over different periods of time. Synergies with relevant research funded activities will be developed as we as sustained co-operation between WHO and the Council of Europe, to avoid overlapping and promote consistency and complementarity of approaches. The outcomes of the project will be exploited in order to recognize gaps in knowledge and existing data. 2. The execution of a large number of laboratory tests needed to characterize individual building material emissions. The test method ECA 18, recommended by the European Collaborative Action to characterize the behaviour of building materials, will be used through the whole experimental set up. The experiments will be carried out on an environmental chamber, offering the opportunity to efficiently study building materials emissions in the indoor environment. The analytical methodologies will run under a Quality System that guaranty the Quality Control of the protocols applied during the whole experimental work. 3. To conduct indoor pollution measurements in private houses and public buildings. 4. The output of the previous tasks will allow the calculation of emi ion factors that will be used to make a prioritisation of building materials used indoor and estimate chemical exposure concentration according to selected scenarios relevant to indoor environments
