Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are considered to be the most frequent adverse event in health care delivery. It has been amply demonstrated that a set of simple and inexpensive clinical good practices (known as “bundled care” ) are highly effective in preventing and managing the most severe HAIs, such as catheter-related blood infections (CRBSI), or ventilation-associated pneumonias (VAPs).
The aim of IMPLEMENT is to provide policymakers, managers and healthcare workers with the knowledge on the implementation of improvement measures (bundles) in patient care for the prevention and management of HAIs. Based on existing European guidelines and hospital policies and practices, IMPLEMENT is meant to help recognize and overcome common obstacles for implementing evidence-based best practices by testing the effectiveness of bundled interventional strategies on a small scale in different European hospitals and under routine conditions.
