The International Association for Ambulatory Surgery (IAAS) was founded in 1996 and is a registered charity in Belgium EU. The IAAS is the only non-profit umbrella organization based on membership of national ambulatory surgery associations from countries around the world, and independent medical associations. Over half of the EU member countries are represented in the IAAS.
“Day Surgery: Making it Happen” represents the overall vision of the IAAS – working together, through education, consultation and communication, with national societies, governmental organizations and service providers with the goal of furthering the understanding of the benefits and advantages of day surgery as well as the barriers to its full development.
The mission of the IAAS is to promote the worldwide development and growth of high quality ambulatory surgery worldwide. Day surgery has proven itself to be a high-quality, safe and cost-effective approach to surgical health care. In this light, IAAS members work together to carry out this mission free of partisan spirit, polemics and prejudice, and are committed to the values of solidarity and equity of access to healthcare.

The ultimate (indirect) objective of the project is to contribute to sustaining health of older people in their longer and more active life span. To rich the objective, it is necessary to develop knowledge of factors influencing healthy aging. Such knowledge is more and more available but it is not equally common in all groups of the elderly and in all European countries. At the same time, knowledge of medically reasonable and cost-effective methods of health promotion among older people in various stages of aging is rather modest. An important and direct objective of the project is to contribute to the proven knowledge of health promotion among older people. To implement research results among health promoters, materials and trainings will be provided. This is the second important direct objective of the project. Milestones achieved by this project will strenghten European and national health programs of healthy aging.


The project aims to use multidimensional prognostic indices(MPI)that predict survival, based on a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA), to improve the cost-effectiveness of health interventions in older individuals with multimorbidity and polypharmacy. The best setting-specific MPI-profile in which individual interventions are effective and reference models for allocate resources in healthcare will be identified to promote integrated care pathways of interventions.
The general objective is to reduce unnecessary use of health care resources according to appropriate and tailored, integrated multi-professional, planned interventions to the older subjects.




PHGEN II produces the first edition of "European Best Practice Guidelines for Quality Assurance, Provision and Use of Genome-based Information and Technologies". The guidelines assist Member States, Applicant and EFTA-EEA Countries with evidence-based guidance on timely and responsible integration of genome-based information and technologies into healthcare systems for the benefit of population health.

