The paramount objective of the "Chain of Trust" project is to advance the empowerment of patients, health professionals and national health authorities across the EU in their understanding and effective use of telehealth services in an effort to actively contribute to the vision of high quality, patient-centred, equitable healthcare for all EU patients.
Through a series of focused and well defined actions the project will strengthen significantly the levels of awareness and trust for all key stakeholders.

To this end two specific objectives have been identified:

1. Knowledge gathering. To improve available knowledge of the specific views – needs, perceptions on the added value and concerns - among patients and health professionals with regard to telehealth services;

2. Rasing awareness and understanding. To increase awareness and understanding of users` perspective on telehealth amongst patients` and health professionals` organisations and health authorities at European and Member State level.


The Joint Action aims to support the eHealth Governance Initiative (eHGI) which functions as platform for technical & political co-operation between Member States on eHealth including their relationship with eHealth Stakeholder Groups which include EU level organisations representing health professionals, hospitals, patients, standards developing organisations & industry. The results of which (recommendations,guidelines) will furthermore support the work of the eHealth Network set up in accordance with Art.14 of the Directive on patients` rights in cross-border healthcare. In the framework of the eHealth Network, the Commission & Member States will discuss and agree on political & strategic issues related to eHealth, in accordance with Art.14 of the Directive, including political prioritization in the eHealth interoperability roadmap and its implementation. To ensure coordination, coherence and consistency between the political level (the eHealth Network) and the expert level (the JA on eHGI), the eHealth Network shall provide guidance for the work of the Joint Action as appropriate.


This project will build a Paediatric Oncology (PO) European Reference Network (ERN) providing paramount requirements for ‘Cross-border healthcare’ allowing the provision of healthcare to children and young people with cancer in a Member State other than the Member State of affiliation. It will identify target groups with conditions that require a particular concentration of resources or expertise, especially when the expertise with certain cancer conditions is rare and case volume low. EXPO-r-NeT aims to reduce current inequalities in childhood cancer survival and healthcare capabilities in different member states. The main objective is to establish a PO-ERN linking pre-existing reference centres inherent to the Cooperative PO- Clinical Trial Groups which may contribute high-level diagnostic and medical expertise to provide cross-border best care to rare childhood cancer populations.


The general objective of EHR-IMPLEMENT is to collect, analyse and compare broad scale electronic health record (EHR) implementations among European countries and provide best practice, policy and strategic recommendations to facilitate EHR implementation initiatives throughout Europe.

