RDPortal2 aims to improve knowledge of the characteristics and epidemiology of RD by collecting and disseminating this information. A tool to retrieve possible diagnoses through a search by clinical signs and symptoms will assist diagnosis. A directory of professional services throughout Europe is provided with the aim of contributing to the appropriate use of expert clinical services and promote quality assurance in laboratories offering medical genetic testing. A directory of patient organisations will help fight isolation and empower patients. The objective is to provide the community at large with an inventory of RD, an encyclopaedia in as many languages as possible, and a directory of expert services in the participating countries. The project aims to improve the update of the encyclopaedia and the update of the directory of services, to put in place a process to ensure swift management of translations, swift collection of data and validation by national health authorities before publication. The project will also improve the governance of Orphanet to ensure its mission at international level. The website will be adapted to offer national front pages in national language(s), and the possibility to disseminate information on national policy documents and national events. Each Member State will benefit from the core infrastructure already developed and will have the opportunity to offer its citizens a national portal at a marginal cost. All the collected information will serve as a source to map health care services in Europe and to build indicators.

The major objective of the project is to ensure an efficient, multi-sector, multi-stakeholder, coherent response at the EU-level to public health threats (PHT) in air transport (nota bene: PHT is defined as threats from communicable and non-communicable diseases as well as from physical, chemical and biological sources and deliberate release acts):

(1) by creating a functioning AIRSAN NETWORK of national public health (PHA) and civil aviation authorities (CAA), local PHA at location of airports, airport management responsible for public health events and airlines across EU Member States (MS)
(around 10 airports and a minimum of 8 major European airlines across at least 8 MS)
and
(2) by reviewing existing, developing and testing new standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines on control of PHT in air transport to be implemented across the AIRSAN NETWORK. An AIRSAN WEBSITE linked to an AIRSAN COMMUNICATION PLATFORM will serve for information gathering and information exchange. An AIRSAN TRAINING TOOL will be developed to support countries with implementation of SOPs and IHR.
