The general objective of the project is to improve the sexual health and rights of young people in Europe.
The SAFE II project will build on the achievements and momentum of the EC-funded project "The way forward: a European partnership to promote the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of youth", more widely referred to as "The SAFE project", with the goal of improving the sexual health and rights (SRHR) of young people (YP) in Europe.
It will take concerted and coordinated effort at the Member State and European levels to improve policies and knowledge on young persons` sexual and reproductive health and rights by promoting the adoption of sound policies, as outlined in the policy guide developed under SAFE, and test the applicability in other Member States of practices that have proved successful in another European country. It will develop close operational links between research institutes and NGOs to track the state of research, identify research gaps, and share information to increase the knowledge and understanding of factors. And it will involve a broader range of stakeholders than the usual actors, to gain understanding and support for policies and actions, and to empower young people to voice their opinions.
It will produce coherent, better targeted and more effective national strategies, and qualitative research that identifies knowledge gaps and provide pointers for future research. It will also promote good practices to improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights of young people, and give the subject higher priority, as well as involving young people in advocating the issues across Europe.
