The project aims to create an alcohol policy network and to enhance European, country-wide, regional and municipal level capacities to develop, implement and monitor alcohol policy.

The project will support the Commission’s communication on alcohol and other European activities to reduce alcohol-related harm and the social costs due to alcohol.

The project will build on the work and draw on the conclusions of a number of previous European projects in the fields of alcohol policy. It will use the networking methodology to exchange experience and best practice, data collection and inventorisation techniques to document alcohol policies, programmes and best practices, impact assessment methodology, and capacity building through training courses, conferences and audit. It will organise conferences and advocacy training events, which will bring together NGOs, research, information, consumer protection, transport, commercial communications, public health and health professionals, and partners addressing youth, mental health, and accidents and injuries.

The project will:
develop an alcohol policy network including NGOs, research, information,consumer protection, transport, commercial communications, public health and health professionals, and partners addressing youth, mental health, and accidents and injuries;
develop an inventory of country-based experiences, best practices and infrastructures;
build and enhance capacity at country, regional and municipal levels for effective development, implementation and monitoring of alcohol policy;
develop a series of alcohol policy related fact sheets to support capacity building;
conduct a health and economic assessment of the impact of alcohol policies at the country level.
